Utopian Society

PowerPoint Project
POSTING PAGE

Your project for the Childhood’s End unit is to research historical Utopian communities to find a particular one where you would have liked to live. Hypothetically, you are going to try to reestablish that community. However, because this society failed in the past, you need to “update” its concept. Take the philosophy and rules of the historical society, and make it 21st Century. Your job is to recruit people to help you start up the community by persuading them on the benefits of it. You will need to become the “expert” on this society based on the research you find and create a PowerPoint for your peers to see on the Wikispace page. Each historical utopian society can only have two different people in each class assigned to it, so as soon as you find the one you want to use, register it with me. Follow the requirements below in organizing your research and PowerPoint.

FORMAT

Ø A minimum of 12 slides and a maximum of 16
Ø Incorporate appropriate graphics, pictures, movie clips, special effects, and sounds. Don’t overuse any of these, as it would cloud the content.
Ø Write persuasively. You are trying to convince us to join you to recreate this Utopian society because the one in which we live doesn’t fit our needs. Outline what it is that this society can do for us.
Ø All sections are well explained, using the PowerPoint as an outline. You will record your voice to further explain your pictures and information on the slide. Your presentation will be uploaded to the Wikispace page for your peers to evaluate and decide which society they wish to join. No actual presentations will be made to the whole class, which is why all information either needs to be on the slide in print or in voice.
Ø All sections must provide school appropriate, inoffensive information. If you question whether something you have falls into that category, please show it to me prior to presenting. Everything that occurs in your society must be legal, according to current laws. Even though you are creating your own society, you would still fall under laws of the country where your society resides.
